Citizen app: Connecting citizens and cities with technology

With the use of ICT in smart cities, government services can be improved to reduce costs and improve the quality of services provided to citizens. With mobile apps, smart cities powered by IoT can become even smarter. This case study explains about the Citizen App developed by TraxSmart to augment digitization of Ajmer Smart City’s public transportation, solid waste management, and help citizens and tourists easily explore the city. 

The Challenge 

The Nagar Nigam of Ajmer, The City of Unity was trying to implement a new and innovative technology for its citizens and government departments to:

 

  • Report civic issues or concerns in their neighborhoods and communities
  • Provide pictures, specific descriptions, and important information about the issue to the city’s Nagar Nigam.
  • Streamline the workflow of Nagar Nigam’s solid waste management system
  • Embrace digitalization in public transportation 
  • Provide citizens and tourists with the needed information about public places and more

 

The Solution

In an effort to enhance citizen and government services, TraxSmart developed the Ajmer Citizen App which was launched by Ajmer Nagar Nigam on 3rd December 2015. With the app, citizens were able to notify the Nagar Nigam of concerns and non-emergency issues, find relevant information about public transport as well as places of interest, and streamline the workflow of the various departments within the Nagar Nigam.

Provides Kachra Vahan/Auto Tipper location

 

Helped citizens locate a Kachra Vahan/Auto Tipper location in their area and receive notifications when one is about 2KM away.

Improves navigation with City Bus Finder

 

Guided citizens through navigating city bus routes, locating bus stops, and learning bus times

Allows to raise complaints

 

Aided citizens in raising grievances about Solid Waste Management in Ajmer Smart City and helped them track their complaints

Lists nearby places of interest

 

Provides a comprehensive information service for citizens and tourists, including the locations of important sites like playgrounds, parking spots, public toilets, Aashray Sthal, and Indira Rasoi, and more.

The Benefit

Increased citizen engagement

 

The Ajmer Citizen App enabled the kind of any time; anywhere convenience citizens of Ajmer wanted. 56% of the citizens confirmed using the app helped them to easily report incidents and also find relevant information. 

Positive ROI

 

As a result of Citizen App, Ajmer Nagam Nigam streamlined its administrative workflows and eliminated manual interventions, allowing workers to focus on other critical tasks. The result was a positive ROI and improved citizen experience by 63%.

The Ajmer Citizen App with a citizen-service-first approach removed barriers and closed gaps between public resources and citizens. The local government can now be accessed online anytime and anywhere, demonstrating a commitment to responsiveness, as well as optimizing the tax-advantages of residents.
